It is in Wayne and Allen Townships in Noble County, Indiana, United States.
The corporate limits include 6.27 square miles (16.24 /km2) of
area, of which 0.22 square miles (0.57 /km2) is water. The
average elevation for the city is 988 feet (301 m)
As of the census of 2010, there were 9,862 people, 3,940 households, and 2,483 families
residing in the city. The population density was 1,630.1 inhabitants per square mile (629.4 /km2).
There were 4,382 housing units at an average density of 724.3 per square mile (279.7 /km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.1%
White, 0.5% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 2.9% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races.
Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.1% of the population.
There were 3,940 households out of which 36.1% had children under the age
of 18 living with them, 42.2% were married couples living together, 14.4% had a female householder with no husband
present, 6.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.0% were
non-families. 31.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9%
had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average
household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.06.
The median age in the city was 34.6 years. 27.4% of residents were under
the age of 18; 8.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 27.3% were from 25
to 44; 23.5% were from 45 to 64; and 12.9% were 65 years of age or older.
The gender makeup of the city was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.
